And yes what I like about SH3 is that you really feel like the captain of the boat rather then it's sole occupant, handling everything yourself. This turned many against the game, because it was released with many 'game-stopper' bugs that should have been caught and fixed before final release. Complicating the matter is the fact that SHIV was rushed out the door before it was finished. SHIII gives the player more of a feel that he is the actual commander of the boat, but SHIV, to me, lacks that feel. However, I found SHIII to be more enjoyable than SHIV. I have played both, while my interests lie more with the US boats rather that the German U-boats. I am treated to brilliant explosions and stellar graphics, but I can't set my own down angle on the dive planes, nor can I use what ever combination of the 4 engines that I want to save fuel. UbiSoft made this decision in an effort to appeal more to the casual player than the hard core simmer. SHIV concentrates on graphics while sacrificing gameplay and mechanics. It was a good patch that fixed many of the 'game stoppers', but we should not have had to beg for the patch. Thankfully, the community came together and UbiSoft responded with patch 1.03. Ubisoft sank so lowДЄs to have buyers of SHIV literally beg for the last, and final, patch. I believe Hollywoodish to be the wrong term for SHIV. Though I would love some input from others. After the second volley, turn 90 degrees and creep away at 1 or 2 knots. My success rate for this tactic is 75% as subsequent depth charges are usually dropped in front of you (The destroyer assumes you continued on your course heading) But only do this when you're under 60 meters. I order silent running and all stop and wait for a few minutes. One tactic I use that has a good amount of success and brings the quickest possible escape. Even if you suffer a couple of depth charge hits, don't panic your boat can take a few, especially if there's a fair distance between you and the depth charges. You're slow but very quiet, this puts all non-essential personnel in their bunks too which helps keeping things quiet. It's here when you want a quick burst of speed and a course change. Remember that a destroyer is deaf right beneath it and when you're behind it.

Plus getting below the thermal layer makes your boat very hard to detect, the thermal layer is passed 60 meters. Instead keep your engine noise low, ahead 1/3 maximum. You can't outrun them submerged, You can try that on the surface if you have sufficient distance.

But even this has limited value) When you're submerged, stealth is your biggest asset, your U-Boat is slow submerged, and cranking the engines to full will drain your batteries very quickly. This is one of the worst things you can do (unless you're in a type XXI electroboot. One mistake many people do is when they are being pursued by a destroyer is they go full speed while submerged.
